Agapay and JALI teams pitched for PBDIC during 34th PCHRD Anniversary
MAKATI, PHILIPPINES - The 34th Anniversary of Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Health, Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) held last March 17, 2016 at the New World Hotel in Makati City gave way for the academe, medical and engineering industries, and young researchers in forging partnerships for sharing ideas in addressing global health challenges. With the theme “Going Global: Increasing International Partnerships in Research and Innovation for Health”, the event highlighted globalization of research and innovation for health and the growing interest for international research collaborations.
In recognizing the need to develop affordable, safe, and reliable biomedical devices and products for research and development, the Philippines Biomedical Device Innovation Consortium (PBDIC) consolidated, designed and implemented activities that will support its innovation ecosystem.Simultaneous to the event was the meeting on Biomedical Devices where two of De La Salle University Biomedical Devices Innovation and E-Health Research Group’s project, both headed by Dr. Nilo Bugtai, a full professor of the Manufacturing Engineering and Management (MEM) Department were pitched.

The AGAPAY project is a robotic exoskeleton arm for upper extremity therapy while the Jointed Articulating Laparoscopic Instrument (JALI) project is a device that can improve operating conditions. The panel included members of the consortium and Dr. M. Jamal Deen, a visiting professor from McMaster University.
